60-foot Articulated Bus

40-foot CNG Bus

VIA uses two stylized Compressed Natural Gas-fueled (CNG) vehicles for its Prímo service. The 60-foot articulated bus, is a high-capacity vehicle with two passenger compartments linked by a pivoting joint that is enclosed by protective folding bellows. The 40-foot Prímo bus, is a shorter single compartment vehicle, which also runs on CNG power to save on fuel cost, while contributing a cleaner environment by reducing vehicle emissions. Prímo vehicles have a specialized paint scheme and interior design to give this premium service a distinctive look. Prímo vehicles meet all Federally Mandated Vehicle Safety Standards, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Society of Automotive Engineering Standards requirements.
Prímo vehicles offer space for two wheelchairs, one new self-restraining rear-facing wheelchair space (60-foot buses only) and the standard forward facing wheelchair positions. VIA operators are required to secure all riders using the forward-facing wheelchair positions using a four-point securement system. When boarding the bus, please let the operator know if you plan on using the forward-facing position.
The rear-facing position does not require securement or assistance, which offers greater independence, and makes it easier and faster to get on and off the bus. When using this position, push yourself all the way back against the cushioned support, apply your parking brake, and fasten optional seat belts if desired.

Customers with disabilities can also apply for VIAtrans, our curb-to-curb paratransit service that provides transportation for persons with disabilities who require additional assistance to board, ride, or disembark from a VIAtrans van. Individuals must apply for this shared-ride program to determine eligibility.
To promote access for customers who are disabled, VIA will consider exceptions to existing rules and procedures on an as-needed basis. Please contact us in advance by e-mail or phone at (210) 362-2020 if you believe you require a disability-related accommodation in order to use VIA buses or VIAtrans vans. A complaint process is available if an accommodation request is declined.
Free 4G LTE Wi-Fi service is available on every bus and van, and at every transit facility. Riders can connect to the free Wi-Fi in three easy steps:
- Turn on your mobile device’s Wi-Fi setting.
- Search for VIAFreeWiFi network.
- Read and agree to the terms of service.
VIA is proudly committed to providing safe, secure and reliable service for its riders, employees, and communities across more than 36 million passenger trips per year. Currently our department employs 30 officers to accomplish our safety goals. In 2019, VIA Transit Police earned statewide accreditation recognition for their dedication to service, through compliance with more than 168 Texas law enforcement best practices criteria. The VTPD was one of only two Transit Police departments in the state to receive the distinguished award from The Texas Police Chiefs Association.
Safety Tips
- Board only at bus stops. VIA operators are not permitted to board passengers outside of designated stops.
- Stand at a safe distance. Do not approach a moving bus and remain a safe distance from the curb until the bus comes to a complete stop. If you see a bus pull away from the stop, please do not chase after it. Operators are not allowed to board passengers once the bus is in motion, please wait on the next one to arrive.
- Be ready to board. Verify the route number and final destination on the front of the bus prior to boarding.
- Be patient. Don’t crowd. Please allow passengers to exit the bus before boarding to minimize crowding in the doorways.
- Hold on. Have a seat. Use handrails to steady yourself as you find a seat on the bus.
- Stay behind the yellow line. Stay seated whenever possible. In the event that a bus is full and you must stand, please remain behind the yellow line so that you do not obstruct the operator’s view.
The 60-Foot Prímo vehicles can accommodate three bikes inside each vehicle. The bike rack is located at the rear of the bus and requires riders with bikes to board from the rear door. Once on board, simply roll the front bike tire into one of the slots and allow the top roller to come over the front wheel. Once the bike is secure, proceed to the front of the bus to pay your fare. The 40-foot Prímo Vehicle features an exterior bike rack on the front of the bus.
